About Department

The Department of Marathi is dedicated to promoting the rich heritage, literature, and linguistic excellence of the Marathi language. The department plays a vital role in preserving and nurturing Marathi as a medium of cultural expression and academic study.

Marathi is one of the prominent regional languages of India, with a deep literary tradition that spans centuries. The department introduces students to classical and modern Marathi literature, poetry, drama, and prose, while also developing their communication, writing, and critical thinking skills.
